A fruit/vegetable juice extractor, comprising a housing (1) incorporating a strainer basket assembly (7), said strainer basket assembly (7), including a filter mesh (12) and grating disk (13), for receiving fruit/vegetable foodstuffs, the grating disk (13) of the strainer basket assembly (17) being made of non-metallic material, such as a ceramic material having integrally formed spikes (15) and centre ribs (16) for grinding down foodstuffs, said filter mesh (12) enabling separation of the juice from the pulp produced, to enable collection of the juice and disposal of the pulp.
