Acyl derivatives of triallyl citrate having the formula: <FORM:0863792/IV (b)/1> wherein R is an alkyl, aryl, alkaryl or aralkyl group, and R1 is an allyl radical, are prepared by the action of the requisite acid anhydride or acid chloride on triallyl citrate. In Example 1, triallyl citrate is stirred with acetic anhydride in the presence of a catalytic amount of sulphuric acid. At the end of about an hour, heat is applied and the reaction mixture is stirred at 50-60 DEG C. for a few minutes. It is then poured into an excess of cold water; and the upper oil layer is separated from the lower aqueous layer. The latter is made alkaline with sodium bicarbonate, and extracted with benzene. The benzene extracts are added to the oil layer. The resultant oil is washed with water, then with dilute sodium carbonate solution, and finally with water again. The neutral oil is dried over sodium sulphate; and then the benzene is removed by stripping. The resultant acetyl triallyl citrate is finally distilled at a pressure of 0,2 mm. Example 2 indicates the preparation of propionyl triallyl citrate. Example 3 indicates the preparation of n-butyryl triallyl citrate. Example 4 describes the preparation of pelargonyl triallyl citrate by the action of pelargonic acid anhydride on the tri-ester. Examples 5, 6 and 7 indicate the preparation of the lauroyl-, benzoyl-, and phenylacetyl derivatives of triallyl citrate respectively. Specification 863,793 is referred to. |
