<p>863,956. Shaft furnaces; preheating furnace charges. SCHMID, A., and HOFER, H. Aug. 31, 1959 [Oct. 2, 1958], No. 29710/59. Class 51 (2). Apparatus for melting metals, glass, ores, &c., comprises shaft furnaces I and II with a common melting chamber W, and burners H on a bustle pipe G opening at C1 and C2 into wider, lower sections of said shafts. An upper rotary mechanism comprises an air tube D fed by a fan C, and a charge hopper A with vibratory shoot B feeding material into a chimney K mounted on rollers E on a platform F whereby said air tube and chimney are alternately positioned over the shafts I and II. The latter are operated in turn, waste gases passing upwardly through the shaft over which the chimney is disposed to preheat incoming material. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), three shaft furnaces are arranged symmetrically about a common hearth and operated cyclically.</p> |
