The present invention comprises a novel application or use of the acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) in antiviral therapy against hepatitis C virus. The ASA has the ability to reduce the viral charge of the hepatitis C virus in human hepatocytes under culture or in the serum of infected humans, thus providing an effective treatment alternative.
