PURPOSE: A display apparatus is provided to sufficiently reduce surface reflection. CONSTITUTION: Pixels control light transmission by changing the alignment state of a liquid crystal molecule(12). The pixels are installed in a liquid crystal device(1). The first substrate(2) is interposed between a protection plate(25) and the second substrate(3). The first polarizing plate(15) is arranged between the protection plate and the first substrate. The first 1/4 wavelength retardation plate(17) includes a ground axis of a direction crossing the absorption axis of the first polarizing plate at 45 degrees. The first 1/4 wavelength retardation plate is arranged between the first substrate and the first polarizing plate.
