FIELD: physics, communications. ^ SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a mobile communication device which measures characteristics or attributes of a first communication network which vary in accordance with the physical location in the first communication network to create a fingerprint or signature of the location in the first communication network. When the fingerprint of the current location of the mobile device is created, it can be compared with a known fingerprint related to a second communication network to determine proximity of the mobile device to the second communication network.
