The system has an electronic control unit (13) including a detection unit for detecting a desulphurization phase of a nitrogen oxides trap (8), and another detection unit (16) for detecting operating conditions of a motor vehicle, the nitrogen oxides trap and a hydrogen sulfide trap (10). The electronic control unit includes a control unit (15) to activate a hydrogen sulfide trap temperature raising unit (12) according to the operating conditions of the motor vehicle, when the former detection unit detects the desulphurization phase of the nitrogen oxides trap. An independent claim is also included for a method for post-treatment of exhaust gas emitted by a motor vehicle.
