PURPOSE: A web service gateway for an IPTV service and an operation method thereof are provided to define a web service gateway between an IPTV service provider and a web based contents provider, thereby providing web based contents to a user through an IPTV network. CONSTITUTION: An IPTV request notification processing unit(200) transmits an IPTV request notification corresponding to IPTV service progress information to a contents provider server. An IPTV service request processing unit(205) controls a requested IPTV service to be transmitted to an IPTV terminal. An information request processing unit transmits information requested from an IPTV network to the contents provider server. An execution request processing unit transmits an execution request to the IPTV network.
