PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wireless communication system capable of performing protection from a lightning surge and detecting the lightning surge while suppressing a system scale. SOLUTION: The wireless communication system includes: a coherer 130, wherein one electrode 134a is connected to a first signal line 122 between an antenna 120 and a wireless communication module 110 through a second signal line 124, the other electrode 134b is grounded to a low level, and a transition is made from an insulated state to a short circuit state by a lightning surge received by the antenna 120; an MCU (Micro Control Unit) 140 for integrally controlling transmission and reception by the wireless communication module 110; a pull-up resistor 150, wherein one terminal is connected to a power supply voltage VCC of a high level, and the other terminal is connected to a DI (Data Input) port 142; and a high frequency blocking coil 160 provided between the second signal line 124 and a third signal line 155 between the other terminal of the pull-up resistor 150 and the DI port 142, wherein the MCU 140 detects a lightning surge when an input to the DI port 142 changes from a high level to a low level.
