<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that when a cleaning bias is applied to a transfer roller, a predetermined voltage is not applied and hence the transfer roller is not cleaned, and therefore the back of the recording material is soiled, in an image forming apparatus having a discharging means for discharging a recording material having passed through a transfer position. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A current value flowing in the transfer roller during discharging is measured, and based on the measured value, the current value of the cleaning bias is controlled.
