PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily set the height data of a workpiece to sewing pattern data. SOLUTION: The sewing machine includes: a sewing machine motor 2a for vertically moving a sewing needle 108; a center presser foot 29 for preventing the floating of the workpiece during sewing; a center presser foot vertically moving mechanism M1 for vertically moving the center presser foot in synchronism with the sewing needle; a center presser foot height adjusting mechanism M4 for adjusting the lower dead point height of the center presser foot by a center presser foot motor 42; a center presser foot height control means 73 for controlling the center presser foot motor so as to stop the center presser foot by pressurization during the lowering contacting of the center presser foot; a thickness acquisition processing means 73 for obtaining the thickness of the workpiece from the height of the center presser foot at the state change of the output shaft of the center presser foot motor by the lowering/contacting of the center presser foot; and a thickness recording means 73 for recording the thickness of the workpiece corresponding to the order of a stitch number in the sewing pattern data.
