<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ticket gate that ensures higher security, a ticketing device, a station service system, and a method of checking tickets. <P>SOLUTION: The ticket gate 2 reads ticket information which includes at least user class information from a portable electronic device 7. The ticket gate 2 determines whether or not passage is permitted according to the ticket information read. Also, the ticket gate 2 determines the class of person carrying the portable electronic device 7, based on the user class information included in the ticket information, and, if determining that passage is not permitted, selects a control pattern corresponding to the determined class from a plurality of control patterns.
