PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image capturing apparatus configured to record the absolute time such as world standard time and local time corresponding to a time zone at image capturing in captured image data. SOLUTION: The image capturing apparatus 100 includes an imaging unit 103 which has an optical system and an image sensor and outputs image data, a memory card (storage unit) 105 which stores the image data, a time counter 107 which clocks the absolute time as reference time and outputs the absolute time and local time in a time zone set by a user, and a control unit 101 which controls the imaging unit 103 to capture an image of a subject and to obtain the image data, obtains the absolute time and local time when capturing the image data from the time counter 107, and stores them in the memory card 105 together with the image data.
