928,077. Disc cutters and pick-ups. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. May 18, 1960 [May 21, 1959; April 15, 1960], No. 17560/60. Class 40 (4). A disc cutter or pick-up for recording or playing back binaural records comprises a body 3, Figs. la, 2, resiliently supported in a magnetic field H and carrying a stylus 7, the body having a flat surface and two mutually perpendicular straight current paths 1, 2 in or parallel to the plane of the flat surface. The flat surface is perpendicular to the direction of the magnetic field H. The plate 3 is preferably a disc and is supported by resilient members 4, 5, 6. Terminals 8, 81 and 9, 91 provide electrical connections to the current paths 1, 2. The paths 1, 2 may be wires or electrodes attached to the disc, or the disc may be made of electrically conductive material, the pairs of diametrically opposed terminals defining the current paths. Two pairs of mutually perpendicular current paths may be provided, one pair, 1, 2, Fig. lb, being displaced at an angle of 45 degrees to the other pair 10, 11. Such an arrangement permits the transducer to be used in either the 45 degree/45 degree or 0 degree/90 degree system. In an alternative arrangement, Figs. 3a, 3b, a generally square plate 31 carrying a stylus 37 is fastened to resilient cylindrical supports 32, 33, 34, 35 which also act as current conductors. A satisfactory distribution of mass is obtained by securing a weight 38 at the centre of the upper edge of the plate 31. The weight 38 may be combined with a damping member. |
