PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sorting unit and equipment for reasonably and effectively solving the problem that it is difficult to further suppress the occurrence of such a trouble that two or more sheets of paper are erroneously pulled therein. SOLUTION: The sorting unit 61 includes a sorting pad 61a arranged in a sorting region T2 for passing leading paper P carried in contact with a paper feed roller 71 in preference to the other paper P, a pickup plate 61c arranged at the upstream side of the sorting pad 61a for guiding a front end of the paper P in a receiving region T1 between the paper feed roller 71 and the sorting pad 61a, and a common unit base 61d for holding both the pickup plate 61c and the sorting pad 61a.
