PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To propose a technology for improving convenience of an apparatus if overlapped-feed original occurs. SOLUTION: While a single-side reading mode and a double-side simultaneous reading mode are set, an instruction section 613 instructs a mode control section 612 to perform processing for reading all originals other than an overlapped-feed original, ejecting the read originals to an eject tray 215, prohibiting a reading operation of an image reading section 2 to the overlapped-feed original, meanwhile, and ejecting the overlapped-feed original to a temporary ejecting section 219. When a double-side inverse reading mode is set, the instruction section 613 instructs the mode control section 612 to perform processing for reading both sides of originals other than the overlapped-feed original and ejecting the read originals to the eject tray later and instructs the mode control section 612 to perform processing for ejecting the overlapped-feed original into the eject tray 215 without performing a reading operation and an inverting operation thereon. A display control section 615 displays on a display section 51 reduced images of the originals other than the overlapped-feed original, a notification about occurrence of overlapped-feed original, a notification about a position where overlapped-feed original occurs, the number of overlapped-feed original, and the like.
