PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sliding door device including a braking device causing no damage of a sliding door, a member at a door closing part, or the like nor noise by the impact of abutting strongly on a member such as a vertical frame of a door frame when closing the door even in the case of a heavy sliding door. SOLUTION: The sliding door device includes: the sliding door movably provided in the sliding door frame to open/close; a closing force generating means for moving the sliding door in the closing direction; and a braking device for braking the sliding door before the sliding door is put in a totally closed state. The braking device comprises a rack provided above the sliding door, and a plurality of braking means including pinion gears meshed with the rack. When the sliding door is brought close to the totally closed door state, the respective pinion gears of the plurality of braking means are meshed with the same rack, and the plurality of braking means perform braking action.
