<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a facing material for casting which facilitates a peeling operation of sand and a facing base material from a casting after the casting, even if the content of graphite in the facing base material is suppressed low from a viewpoint of environment improvement in a casting operation. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In one embodiment, the facing base material in the facing material contains: 2 to 20 mass% mica and 3 to 30 mass% talc. In another embodiment, the facing base material contains one or more kinds selected from among chamotte and alumina. In another embodiment, the facing base material contains one or more kinds selected from among silica, quartz, fused silica, zircon, zirconia, magnesia, calcia, chromite, mullite, andalusite, olivine, spinel, pottery stone, obsidian, pearlite, glass powder, porcelain enamel frit, diatomaceous earth, agalmatolite, vermiculite, expansible shale, aluminous shale, graphite, carbon, gilsonite, kyanite, bauxite, titanium oxide, iron oxide, manganese oxide, magnesium carbonate, calcium carbonate, silicon carbide, silicon nitride and boron nitride.
