The system has a main device (1) provided with a control unit comprising a channel for fixing a sensor (3) for sending and/or receiving microwave signals and/or ultrasonic signals within a monitored area (6). An evaluation device evaluates signals of the sensor. An indication device (2) produces light, tone and/or radio signals in accordance with alarm signals in an activated condition, and a locking mechanism is connected with the evaluation device. A locking device opens an inlet of a fuel supply line or interrupts the inlet of the fuel supply line in accordance with the alarm signals. An independent claim is also included for a method for preventing unauthorized access to fuel from a fuel tank of a motor vehicle or a building.
