The horseshoe (1) has a U-shaped base body for fitting a hoof and comprising arcuate side piece sections (2, 2') arranged symmetric to a longitudinal axis (LA) of the horseshoe. A connecting section (3) connects the side piece sections with each other, where the horseshoe is made of metal or metal alloy. The connecting section has a recess (4) in a region of an inner front side (1.3) of the horseshoe such that a distance between the inner front side and an outer front side (1.4) in the recess region is smaller than a distance in a region of the side piece sections. An independent claim is also included for a method for producing a horseshoe.
