PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an effective component holding material which can stably and effectively hold an effective component, and can achieve useful functions including the sustained-release property and solubility of the effective component regardless of whether the effective component is hydrophilic or hydrophobic, using a multi-branched polymer. SOLUTION: The effective component holding material has a structure in which a desired effective component is held on a spherical multi-branched structure molecule of a branched polyglycerol having a molecular weight of 500 to 100,000, and preferably has a shell constituted of a compound reactive with terminal hydroxyl groups of the multi-branched polyglycerol present on the surface of the spherical multi-branched structure molecule, and covering at least a part of the surface of the multi-branched structure molecule.
