<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a die protecting method by which the abnormality detection for a die can accurately and instantly be performed. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In a die clamping apparatus 1 includes a die closing means 3 which closes the die 6 through a hydraulic cylinder apparatus 2, a controlling apparatus 20 determines whether the pressure of the enclosed hydraulic cylinder apparatus 2 changes to a predetermined value or not during a period in which the die 6 moves from a predetermined position of the die closing stroke to a position slightly before the die closing completion position.
