<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of treating neutralized sludge capable of efficiently using neutralized sludge of waste material as iron-making raw material for stainless raw material or the like by treating the neutralized sludge with a process including microwave heating, inexpensively and efficiently drying the neutralized sludge, removing crystal water, performing reduction and performing removal of impurities such as dehalogenation and dezincfication. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The method of treating neutralized sludge is characterized in that, in a waste water treatment process comprising a step of neutralizing acidic waste water containing heavy metal in a neutralizing tank to produce the neutralized sludge, a subsequent step of separating the neutralized sludge by precipitation in a precipitation tank to recover the neutralized sludge as slurry and a step of dehydrating the slurry to make dehydrated cake of the neutralized sludge, a reducing agent containing carbon is added to the neutralized sludge in the neutralizing tank or the precipitation tank, the dehydrated cake of the neutralized sludge in which the reducing agent is mixed is irradiated with microwave to perform heating treatment and, thereby, heavy metal is reduced.
