The system (2) has an LCD (26) for representation of images, and an image processing device (20) for transmitting a red color (R) signal (28) to the LCD. The image processing device has a display chip (22) for adjusting gamma values of the R-signal and/or reducing luminousness of the R-signal to zero or a preset ratio based on reception of a trigger signal. The image processing device has a signal transmission channel (24) converting and transmitting the R-signal to the LCD, and a switching element arranged between an output of the R-signal at the channel and the LCD. An independent claim is also included for a method for driving a display system.
