Class 123(1) An impressed current anode for the protection of hollow metal objects, especially pipes, comprises a rod 4 of insulating material, e.g. synthetic resin, having an axial bore 8 and a diametrical bore 10 near the end of the rod lying inside the wall 6 of the pipe &c., the rod being secured in an aperture in the wall by a seal type gland (not shown). A platinum or platinum alloy lead-in wire 12 is sealed within the bores 8, 10 by a plastic filler which forms a liquidtight seal and has its free end 14 wound helically around the rod to form the anode surface exposed to the electrolyte. In a modification the helix is replaced by a platinum or platinum alloy sleeve to which the wire 12 is connected.
