The battery has a stack (1) with flat cells (2) i.e. prismatic flat cells, that are connected in a row. Each cell has an electro-chemical energy storage and electrode connections (4) that laterally lead from a casing (6). An electrically conducting connecting piece (32) is provided between the electrode connections of the two cells that lie on top of each other. A spring (31) presses the electrode connections of the flat cells on the connecting piece for two flat cells that lie on top of each other. Additional mechanical connections are provided between the spring and the connecting piece.
