<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a medicine comprising a specific piperazine hydrochloride derivative for treating and preventing depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, dementia, obesity, cerebral infarction or the like, or for treating side effects in a treatment of hypertension, chronic sharp pain, premenstrual syndrome or the like, and the use thereof. <P>SOLUTION: A new crystalline modification of 1-[4-(5-cyanoindol-3-yl)butyl]-4-(2-carbamoyl-benzofuran-5-yl)piperazine hydrochloride is provided. A crystalline modification of 1-[4-(5-cyanoindol-3-yl)butyl]-4-(2-carbamoyl-benzofuran-5-yl)piperazine dihydrochloride is provided.
