<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device capable of controlling a luminance of a backlight, in response to a gradation level of an image data of displaying one image by a frame unit. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The display includes a display panel including a pixel array and the backlight, a gate driver, and a data driver, and further includes a luminance calculation part for receiving the first image data and for calculating the first luminance average value, a luminance regulating part for comparing the first luminance average value, with the second luminance average value of the second image data inputted before, and for regulating the first backlight luminance regulation value and the first contrast regulation value, a backlight driving part for regulating the first backlight drive signal in response to the first backlight luminance regulation value, to be provided to the backlight, and a contrast regulating part for regulating a contrast of the first image data in response to the first contrast regulation value, to be provided to the data driver.
