PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To rapidly and securely attain the emergency stop of a slide while evading interference in an ordinary press operation. SOLUTION: Based on a request for emergency stop, the amount of the kinetic energy of a slide and the amount of the power energy to be storable in an energy storage device are detected, the amount of the power energy regenerative by a motor equivalent to the detected kinetic energy amount and the amount of the power energy to be storable in the energy storage device are compared, and, whether the slide having the kinetic energy amount can be securely stopped only by a regeneration brake operation or not is discriminated, and in the case it is discriminated that the slide can be securely stopped, the slide is stopped only by a regeneration brake operation, and also, in accordance with a predetermined stopping operation pattern, and in the case it is discriminated that the slide can not be securely stopped, a mechanical brake operation is added to the regeneration brake operation, and also, in accordance with the predetermined stopping pattern, the slide is stopped.
