The procedure involves providing a sooting model (VM) of an exhaust gas recycling device as a function of provided initial parameters (EP), where the initial parameters comprise temperature and pressure of exhaust gas after completion of the combustion process in an engine. Exhaust gas recycling temperature (RK) of the exhaust gas recycling device is determined in certain points based on the provided sooting model. Sooting of the exhaust gas device is determined in dependence of the determined exhaust gas recycling temperature. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for determination of sooting of an exhaust gas recycling device of a vehicle (2) a computer program product for determining sooting of an exhaust gas recycling device of a vehicle.
