<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a business form reading device capable of improving workability at reading a business form, even when a business form on which an IC chip is mounted and a business form on which the IC chip is not mounted are mixed. <P>SOLUTION: The business form reading device 2 includes a camera 6 for optically reading an image in a reading area provided in a passport P; a chip existence determining unit 16 for determining whether the IC chip is mounted on the passport P; a chip existence display unit 10 for displaying a result of determination; and an antenna unit 8 for reading data recorded in the IC chip by a wireless communication, when the IC chip is determined as being mounted on the passport P.
