PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To carry out the adjustment of an image forming density more accurately in the consideration of the periodical unevenness of the density in a paper passing direction. SOLUTION: The half cycle of density unevenness is defined as 0.5 L (L is periodical information and specific data for the product). A patch 401 in the half cycle with high density and a patch 402 in a half cycle with low density having the same color and a plurality of gradation values are respectively created on paper 403, 404 in the paper passing direction x with shifted phases. The influence of periodical density unevenness can be eliminated by using an average value of the measured results of the patches 401, 402 in two positions for density adjustment.
