<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus equipped with a photographing operation device configured to give the operational touch suitable for a photographing mode in which a still image is taken immediately from a focused state when a photographer takes the still image while taking a moving image. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus is configured so that a focusing operation switch armature 3 is shifted to an ON state or the focusing operation switch armature 3 is separated from an action range of an operation pillar 1a of a release button 1 when setting a mode to a moving image taking mode by operating a photographing mode switching lever 6 having a turning operation part. Thus, the release button 1 is set to eliminate half-depressing operation and perform fully depressing operation when the release button 1 is depressed to take the still image while taking the moving image. As a result, when taking the still image while taking the moving image, the photographer can take the still image by fully depressing the release button 1 without feeling the operational touch for performing focusing operation which is not performed actually.
