The indicator i.e. screen (1), has an interface element i.e. icon (2), for operating a motor vehicle by a driver, and a display element i.e. Pop up (3), with a display pointing along direction of the interface element or dynamically changeable along the direction, for indicating information concerning the interface element. The interface element is provided with a continuous display or a control element. The interface element comprises an additional display element, and the display element of the indicator is movable to the additional display element. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a motor vehicle by a driver using an interface element.
