The appliance (1) has a container (8) comprising a drain outlet (10), and a pump (12) which is indirectly connected with the drain outlet. A pump controller (20) controls the pump in two operation modes. The pump allows conveying of liquid from the drain outlet by rotating in a rotation direction, in one of the operation modes. The pump inhibits conveying of liquid by rotating in another rotation direction that is opposite to the former rotation direction, in the other operation mode.
