METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING CHLORINE

Provided is a novel and more efficient method for manufacturing chlorine which is capable of removing the impurities other than hydrogen chloride in the starting material gas and of efficiently recovering unreacted hydrogen chloride after an oxidation reaction. This method for manufacturing chlorine is characterized by including an oxidation step wherein a chlorine-containing gas is obtained by using oxygen to oxidize the hydrogen chloride in a starting material gas which contains hydrogen chloride and impurities, and an absorption step wherein the chlorine-containing gas obtained in the oxidation step is brought into contact with water or aqueous hydrochloric acid to recover unreacted hydrogen chloride as a solution having hydrogen chloride and water as the primary components and obtain a gas having chlorine and oxygen as the primary components; the aforementioned starting material gas includes a gas obtained with at least a first diffusion step or a second diffusion step, and the aforementioned starting material gas undergoes a moisture-removal step and a condensation step after at least the first diffusion step or the second diffusion step and prior to being supplied to the oxidation step.
