The method involves connecting an interior (3) of a lithium-ion battery (1) with a fire extinguishing agent storage (5) by an emergency line (4), where the interior of the battery comprises individual cells (2) of the battery. A fire extinguishing agent is temporarily introduced from the storage into the interior for fire prevention and/or firefighting. A tempered cooling circuit of the battery is selected as a storage that contains carbon dioxide as a refrigerant. The line is temporarily and fluidically connected with the interior by an emergency opening (7). An independent claim is also included for a device for fire prevention and/or fire-fighting for a lithium-ion battery of a vehicle i.e. motor vehicle.
