PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that more effectively suppresses occurrence of scale-like defect. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: a destaticization means (destaticization device M1) that is trained about an endless belt-like conductive film F extended between a tension roller 201 and counter roller (support roller, backup roller) 200 so as to be disposed upstream in the rotating direction of an intermediate transfer belt 110 so as to be in contact with the intermediate transfer belt, and that is disposed so that the conductive film is in contact with the intermediate transfer belt; and a pressing means (plate-like member 300) that is disposed in contact with the surface of the inside of the endless belt-like conductive film for forming the destaticization means and that presses the area of part of the conductive film against the intermediate transfer belt.
