PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an mounting structure of a temperature sensor which simplifies the work for mounting the temperature sensor and also makes it possible to sense the temperature of a temperature sensing object wall surface with high accuracy, and a projection type image display device. SOLUTION: The projection type image display device uses the temperature sensor 70 which has a temperature sensing surface provided on one side of a rectangular-parallelepiped-shaped body 71. The temperature sensor 70 is inserted in a sliding manner into a groove part 82 from an insertion opening 82b so that the temperature sensing surface of the temperature sensor 70 is brought into contact with the temperature sensing object wall surface 61 of which the temperature is to be sensed. The tip portion of the body 71 of the temperature sensor 70 is supported by a support 83. Moreover, a lead wire 72 of the temperature sensor 70 is passed through a bend adjusting part 85 and bent in the shape of a letter U. By making an elastic force of the bent lead wire 72 work on the body 71 of the temperature sensor 70, the temperature sensing surface of the body 71 is brought into close contact with the temperature sensing object wall surface 61.
