<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an actuator capable of generating a large motion stroke compared with its overall length and exerting a large operating force. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The actuator 1 includes a fluid accommodation part 3 to accommodate a functional fluid, a drive part 2 to allow deformation upon receiving a jet stream pressure of the functional fluid fed from the fluid accommodation part 3, and at least a pair of electrodes 4 and 5 to generate a jet stream pressure directed from the fluid accommodation part to the drive part by impressing a voltage on the functional fluid, wherein the part 3 is formed in the drive part 2.
