The system (10) has a filter element (12) provided with a side band (24) on longitudinal edges (16) of the filter element. The side band has a polygonal frame element (30) on the longitudinal edges for marking the insertion of the filter system into a filter receiver. The side band forms the frame element by folding the filter element. A slot, a groove and/or an imprint is provided at a folding line alternatively. The frame element is formed by providing a filling e.g. liquid or pasty material such as hot melt adhesive, between folding sections of the side band. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a filter system.
