A method for controlling power line communication device and a power line communication device are disclosed by the embodiment of the invention. The method includes: acquiring the working state and the network state of the power line communication device; and switching the working state of the power line communication device according to the working state and the network state of the power line communication device. The power line communication device includes: a working state acquiring means which is used to acquire the working state of the power line communication device; a network state acquiring means which is used to acquire the network state of the power line communication device; and a switching means which is used to switch the working state of the power line communication device according to the working state and the network state of the power line communication device.
