<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a packaging material favored by some consumers who are nervous about hygiene, and to provide a packaging material using the packaging material. <P>SOLUTION: A packaging material 1 used to package a solid product provided with one surface, the other surface, and side surfaces. The packaging material is provided with a sheet body 2 having a first surface section 7 for covering the surface of the solid product, side surface sections 8-1 to 8-4 for covering the side surfaces, and second surface sections 9-1 to 9-4 arranged on the other surface, and the packaging material 1 is also provided with a tear tape 3 applied to the sheet body 2 and cutting the sheet body 2. The tear tape 3 is provided in such a manner that the tear tape starts from a side surface section 8-1 to 8-4 or a second surface section 9-1 to 9-4 and is branched in the middle so that a first branch section 3a and a second branch section 3b pass through the first surface section 7. The first branch section 3a is provided so as to extend along the edge at one side section of the first surface section 7.
