PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem of a paper feeding failure caused that the rise of a document tray does not follow control, when starting a job by fully loading documents on a document tray of a document reader. SOLUTION: When starting the job in a state of loading the documents on the document tray in an ordinary loading quantity, the document tray is lifted by driving a lifter motor by a predetermined quantity after detecting reduction in the documents. While, when starting the job in a state of fully loading the documents on the document tray, only when the first document tray rises, the document tray is lifted until a lower limit detecting sensor is turned off.
