<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent degradation in sealing state of a mechanical seal even in stop of operation, in a gas compressor. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In the compressor 100 (gas compressor), in which a rotational shaft 51 of a compressor body 60 and a housing 10 are sealed by a mechanical seal 14 disposed to a sealing chamber 15, the sealing chamber 15 communicates with the inside of the compressor body 60 through a communication hole 34. In stop of the compressor body 60, the communication hole 34 below a sealing surface 14c of the mechanical seal 14 is closed by an open/close valve 35 not to communicate with the inside of the compressor body 60. By the structure, the level of refrigerating oil R (oil) in the sealing chamber 15 does not get lower than the sealing surface 14c even in the stop of the operation, so that the degradation in sealing state of the mechanical seal 14 is prevented.
