<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately display an observation image by using image information acquired in real-time. Ž<P>SOLUTION: Illumination light is spirally scanned by two-dimensionally resonaing the fiber tip portion. More specifically, a spiral scan and a circular scan are alternated with one another in one revolution, and the radii in a scanning course increase step by step. The amount of illumination is adjusted in accordance to a scanning position in a subsequent even-interval line (circular scan line) on the basis of previous image-pixel data from odd-interval lines (spiral scan lines).
