REFRESH CYCLE SETTLEMENT METHOD OF DYNAMIC RANDOM ACCESS MEMORY AND THE DYNAMIC RANDOM ACCESS MEMORY

PURPOSE: A refresh cycle deciding method of a dynamic memory device using a monitoring bit and the dynamic memory device are provided to reduce power consumption by adjusting a self refresh cycle depending on whether or not an error occurs in a monitoring bit. CONSTITUTION: An ECC engine(20) selects at least one monitoring bit during a self refresh period. The ECC engine determines whether or not an error is in the selected monitoring bit. A monitoring address storage unit(30) stores the monitoring address of the selected monitoring bit. A refresh cycle determining circuit(40) adjusts a self refresh cycle depending on whether or not the error occurs in the monitoring bit. The monitoring address storage unit comprises a monitoring address register, a sampling flag register, and an error flag register.
