摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst device activating an exhaust gas cleaning catalyst early, without the need of a large amount electric power or a large mounting space. <P>SOLUTION: The catalyst device includes: a catalyst case 40 disposed to an exhaust gas flow passage 50 of an internal combustion engine; a light heating element 20 housed therein; the exhaust gas cleaning catalyst 30; and a light source 10 emitting light to the heating element 20. Mirror-like finishing is applied to an inner face of the catalyst case 40 to efficiently transmit the light from the light source 10 to the light heating element 20. The light heating element 20 and the exhaust gas cleaning catalyst 30 are integrally constituted by applying coating separately into a light heating material coat layer and a catalyst coat layer for a honeycomb support.
