PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a machine tool which can improve the support rigidity of a movable base. SOLUTION: A tool rest 5 has a pair of tool rest sliding surfaces 5d arranged so as to extend along an axis A of a spindle. A tailstock (movable base) 4 has a pair of movable base sliding surfaces 4d and 4e arranged so as to extend along the axis A of the spindle and to be located outside the tool rest sliding surfaces 5d.
