PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical device which is improved in working efficiency in maintenance by making it possible to easily replace parts while the device is hanged from the ceiling, and to provide a projection image display apparatus using the optical device. SOLUTION: The optical device is configured such that a frame 63 having an optical component is attached to the predetermined position of a housing. The frame 63 includes main fixing parts 637a and 637b which is fixed to the housing, when the frame is positioned with respect to the housing, and auxiliary fixing parts 631a and 631b for achieving temporary fixing to the housing, even when fixation at the main fixing parts is released.
